I want to use a.ttc font (just one that comes with the Mac) in Unity. I've already got access to it in photoshop but when I move the.ttc file into Unity it doesn't recognise it as a font file.

Hi Kim, Downloading the appropriate file and following the correct installation are some of the factors to consider when adding fonts on your device. To effectively assist you with your concern, we'd like to ask the following:.
Are you getting any error messages? If yes, is it when downloading or installing the font pack?. Have you tried installing other font pack from the same source? If yes, did you encounter the same error? On the other hand, we'd like to remind you that we only have limited support in recommending downloadable fonts from third party sites thus we suggest that you use licensed fonts from reputable online sources. We're looking forward to your response.
Hi Kim, This is the site that I use, I have experienced good success's using this source for finding and acquiring font installation packages. This site offers a large selection of free as well as commercial (paid for) fonts. Hint: When searching for a font type use the name of the font sans the developers (or brand) name as a prefix. As example, the link below should take you to the available ' Akzidenz Grotesk Medium' fonts page on the site. Disclaimer; Use the referenced site at your own risk. As I have previously stated, I have experienced good results from using the referenced website for finding, downloading and installing font packages.
However, that being said, even though/if it downloaded as showing clean it is still good practice to scan any (and/or every) downloaded installer, file, ZIP file, etc. Before using, opening, or extracting said. You can do this by first right-clicking on the file and then choosing 'Scan with' (Defender, Malwarebytes, etc.), then check the results of the scan before continuing on.
Hope that this helps. Let us know how it goes and Good Luck!
There is however no mandated connection between the encoding system and the font used to display the characters considering the situation: an utf-8 encoded plain text file (.txt), how do it display on the computer, is depend on the user, not the author. In stkaiti: in hanzipen tc: in songti tc: the same content can be displayed by different fonts, to give different impression. Font and encoding are usually tied together for practical reasons in pre-unicode era, as i remember, on mac os, all big-5 encoded text is defaulted to display initially by the system font 'taibei'; while shift jis encoded text would use the font 'osaka'. In modern days (utf-8), mac / windows are smart enough to choose the font automatically, to display each code point. For chinese character, the concepts 'serif', 'sans serif', 'script' are, inapplicable. For this question, i would suggest you read the book 'CJKV Information Processing', published by o'really; which is informative & authoritative: they provided the 1st chapter in pdf.
